Pair of Mid 19th Century Dutch Candlesticks

£620.00

Impressive pair of gilt metal candlesticks (or pricket sticks) with stunning depictions of the ‘all seeing eye’ on their bases

(each approx. 1 meter tall)

Purchased from a dealer in Devon (UK), who said that they were found the the basement of a Catholic Church in Kingskerswell (a village in South Devon). Bearing the maker’s name “J Wiegman” in “Zwolle” (Netherlands), and the date “1848”. They are extremely unusual - I cannot find any others with depictions of the ‘all seeing eye’, a symbol more associated with Freemasonry than the Catholic Church.

They are in unrestored condition - I think they are quite special, and I’m not altering them from the condition I found them in. As you can see in the images, at some point one has been painted black at the top - I’m sure this could easily be removed.
